Statement

The Influx collective is a group of women who openly configured themselves to experience creating art together across different countries, cultural backgrounds, ages, and perspectives.
Initially, we gathered to discuss and soak in Michel Foucault’s essay “The Order of Discourse” as a starting point to create, in collaboration, a collective artwork for an exhibition within the Uncool
Artist community, that not only stemmed from our discussion of the text, but also branched out
much further into the individual and the group processes of creation.

The Influx Collective is an experiment in communal creation using digital bridges to be able to interact through them in order to cross the distance gap that separates us and develop a way of understanding each other, testing and finding our own forms of communication as a conscious multiplicity––a very female one at that. Getting together to bring to the table our own ideas,
interpretations, vulnerabilities, and creations, knowing that they will be utterly transformed in the process of the collective, is as much part of the collective’s work as the artworks we have brought about. Through our meetings, all sorts of tones, themes, and evocations took shape, all shared and reverberated over and over in an open manner until a dynamic polyphony reached its own expression, from reading together up to occupying tangible spaces with words, sounds, images, and textures, participation is key.

The body of work created is, to a great extent, about composing an embodied symphony of multiple sensitivities: a multiplicity of intertwined expressions no longer separated individuals but
members of a singular collective entity who create in variation. From different positions and intensities of participation, we cooperate based on our distinct realities and what they give us.
The Influx Collective is open, fluid, and currently composed by Amy Deal, Aledra, Summer
McCroskey, Fábia Bercsek, Kayla Singh Griffin, Maria Kunigk, Nirvana Geuvdjelian Herrera, Michan Pour-Azar, Mikaela Montenegro, Debora Rayel Eva, Clarice Sanvicente, Petya Zasheva and Ana Julia Vilela. We are women in Brazil, Ecuador, the United States, Bulgaria, and Mexico who create art through video, painting, photography, print-making, collage, textiles, soft sculpture, and handwritten poetry.
